1. Pick Strengths & Divide Workload
It’s no secret that in a start up, there are no typical roles to follow. Despite having a job title, the nature of working in a startup means that we are actually performing tasks beyond the scope of the title. We typically make a list of all the things that need done for Ovvy and set deadlines. Between the team members, we decide to split things needing done based on our core strengths. Sometimes, one single project is so large that it involves multiple people to collaborate on it as well.
2. Short, Productive Hours
We understand what works best for us as individuals and as well as a team, hence we have greater insights as to when our most productive hours are. We follow these hours repeatedly, make a routine of it, and try to make those hours highly productive.
3. We Show Up
There have been missed deadlines, there have been sleepless nights, there have been sick days – but we still show up to work. This helps us regain focus on our priorities – we believe this is truly the way to better productivity and success.
4. Set Realistic Goals
As a young company, it’s easy to dream big. In fact, dreaming big keeps up going. However, often times the goals are so large that they need to be broken down into smaller, more realistic and achievable goals on the way to the larger goals. This helps is achieve milestones, and focus on the here and now – especially during times requiring us to problem solve.
5. Meet, Work, Repeat
We limit the number of meetings as a team. One, this helps each meeting be as productive as possible because we have a long list of things to discuss and put behind us. Second, we take time in between to achieve things on our to-do lists so that we can regroup later to get feedback on the work.
